of Pioneer Fence, Deck & Supply Co-how it all began
The story begins in 1994 with Robert Holbrook in Colorado. Originally from Vancouver WA, he landed in Colorado at the end of his Army career and was working as a nurse in a hospital for many years. One day, he decided it was time to make a change and look at all his options, which included his experiences growing up in a family of construction.
With a handful of employees, he started a fencing company with the expectation that it would only be a part-time job. That part-time job quickly grew into a full-time company as orders for fences grew.
With a few successful years of building fences behind him, he added decks to his list of services. As time went by, he continued to expand the business by adding more employees and new options for customer’s fence and deck needs.
Back to Vancouver WA
In 2000, Robert sold his business and moved back to his hometown of Vancouver, WA and opened Pioneer Fence, Deck & Supply Company. Having many years of experience in fencing and decking, he made the decision to expand his services and started offering patio covers.
Here in the Pacific NW with the weather constantly changing, patio covers were an instant hit. With business growing yet still working from a private location, Robert felt the need to expand and relocate to a place where the Do-It-Yourself customers could go. They wanted a location that had a small town feel but yet offered all customers professional service that went above and beyond those of other companies.
Time for a new location
In 2007, the current location became available. Robert’s wife Jennifer had been doing real estate and construction but they both felt if they were going to take this next step, everyone had to be on board 100%. Jennifer is the one you’ll see the most as she works in the office/showroom and answers the phone. Pioneer prides themselves on very little turn over as most of the employees have been aboard between 4-8+ years.
Pioneer Fence becomes part of the Traeger Grills family
In 2008, Pioneer added Traeger Pellet Grills to their list of available items. It all started out as a great reason to buy one for their family and has now turned into a business within itself.
Each day the Traeger customer count grows as Pioneer is often listed as their top seller. You didn’t need to purchase your Traeger through Pioneer to be a part of our growing family; we offers pellets, sauces, spices, accessories and more to ALL!
In October 2010, Pioneer added “Dyson” as the newest member of the team. He’ll greet you at the door every time (unless he has the day off) and you’ll find he takes his job very serious, at least as serious as a 9 lb. Pomeranian can. He loves children and is often the first thing people look for when they walk through the door!
Still that home town service
Even though the business continues to grow, they have kept that “home town” feel and treat every customer as if their project is the most important, because it is. When Robert and Jennifer have to step away or take some family time often you will see “Big Bob” (Robert’s father) manning the office. Even though he is still running his company Spacemaster Foundations, he finds the time to help out and seems to enjoy every bit of it.

Deck and Patio Crew
For anyone who has had the opportunity of having a deck or patio cover built by Pioneer, you know our crew. John and Rick have many years between the two of them in the construction line of work. They are our #1 Deck/Patio Cover Crew and for many customers, they become family during the time they work on your project.
Pioneer has two additional “Fence” crews. Charley, Nick and Adam have all been with Pioneer for over 5 years. You can be assured all of our Fence Installers have the experience and knowledge to complete your project from beginning to end with a wonderful outcome! There are times when Charley takes on a deck project as he also has over 40 years of construction experience.
